We have all heard of early education but have you heard of prenatal education? Yes, you read me right. Education before your little one is even born! And it is all that new. In fact, parents-to-be all over the world have been talking, reading, singing and playing music to their baby while still in the womb - all in the hopes that their little one will grow up to be the next Mozart or Bach.

But does it work? Can your unborn child hear your voice? Can she hear when you have a conversation or even an argument? Well, she can and recent studies have shown that you can start to stimulate and communicate with your baby even before she's born. Following are some ways to stimulate your baby:

Baby

Taste/Smell Stimulation

Baby can taste the amniotic fluid. Therefore, take this opportunity to introduce as much taste and smell sensation as possible. Not only are these a form of stimulation, but experts believe that babies who experience a variety of taste-smells in the womb are likely to be more accepting of a variety of foods after birth.

Touch Stimulation

If baby pushes out her foot, hand or bottom, push gently back. Try lightly massaging your baby.

Light Stimulation

Opinion is divided over whether it's a good idea to shine a flashlight on a pregnant belly as bright lights can damage a young baby's eyes or disturb baby's sleep. To be on the safe side, only use a flashlight during the last month of pregnancy, and when baby is awake and active.

Sound Stimulation

Your baby does not hear particularly well through her ears, which are filled with amniotic fluid. What she hears most clearly comes through the vibrations of her skull. As for sounds from outside the womb, low-pitched frequencies travel best through liquids. Listening to classical music is great if Mom enjoys it. Bass and percussion instruments, and the low notes on the piano, will be most audible.

Mom's voice stands out and is uniquely soothing to the baby - both before and after birth. Studies have shown that unborn babies slow their swallowing while listening to their mother's voice. Soon after birth, babies show a distinct preference for their mother's voice and the language she speaks. This is because low frequencies travel well through water. Dad's deeper voice should be audible and recognizable to the baby, as long as he is close enough to Mom's pregnant belly.

At the end of the day, your thoughts play the most important part while performing all these abovementioned stimulations. So send loving thoughts throughout the day to your baby and you will be providing her with comfort, love and stability.

Baby Names - A Smart Start

Afiqah Haidar believes that managing your stress throughout pregnancy is important as stress has a direct and negative impact on the formation of your baby's personality even as early as in the womb. She emphasizes on the importance of ensuring a well conducive environment for your child's development even before birth. Your child's name will somehow or another describes your child's personality.
